What is BrainSpotting?
Brainspotting is a neurobiological tool used in therapy to access deep brain structures where trauma can become stuck, allowing it to be processed and integrated.
This interesting technique uses the science behind our orienting response of the eyes. During the process, the client selects a difficult experience they would like to work on. In collaboration with the therapist, an eye position related to the stored trauma is identified, and subsequently the inner brainspot which aligns with this experience is accessed. Utilizing the therapeutic relationship and mindful attention, the client is able to work through the emotions of the targeted experience and process the experience for a reduction in overall intensity with increased clarity and insight regarding the targeted event.

Talk therapy accesses the structures of the brain responsible in organizing and providing meaning to our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Brainspotting accesses deeper brain structures responsible for holding and processing memory. This area is typically impacted in trauma when memory becomes stuck in threat, and is not impacted by traditional talk therapy.
EMDR Flash Technique is an adaptation of traditional EMDR. In EMDR Flash Technique, a positive engaging focus is selected. This is any topic that brings one enjoyment or joy that the client could spend some time talking about. In this technique, using EMDR, the positive event is used to override the negative event that the client would like to target.
